If the duct cannot carry the new system, you hear that before anything is ordered.

Equipment, coil, line set, pad, disconnect, permit and start-up, all on one figure.
- 04Pull the permit and swap it
A day for a straight changeout, longer where the attic was framed around the old unit.
- 05Charge it and prove it
Refrigerant weighed in, static pressure and temperature split measured, and the readings written on your paperwork.
Questions about replacing a system
Can I replace it with the same size?
You can, and it is how most wrong systems get installed. Houses gain windows, insulation and extensions. The calculation takes half an hour and it is the only thing that answers this.
Is a bigger system better?
No. An oversized system chills the air quickly, switches off before it has pulled any humidity out, and leaves you cold and clammy. The short cycling wears the compressor as well.
Do I need a permit for a straight swap?
Yes, and the inspection that follows is the part protecting you rather than us. A changeout done without one is invisible until you sell the house.
